Create an id card

Why create an ID card?

An ID card on an actor allows you to obtain at a glance all relevant information on the actor in question.

What should an ID card contain?

  • General information (name, years of creation, head office, turnover, etc.)
  • The list of existing brands, subsidiaries or other daughter/mother companies
  • Current and future projects, if any
  • Existing or future products
  • Main competitors
  • Main partners
  • Main suppliers
  • ... you can modulate this and add the information that seems most important to you

In order to create an ID card, start by creating a web search with the name of the company in inverted commas. Remember to add a context word (e.g. about its market) if there is any existing homonym.

General information can easily be found on the company's website. To find existing brands or subsidiaries, you can use the search bar and type keywords such as: owns, brand, subsidiary, portfolio, etc. With the help of the Document view, you will be able to identify the extracts that give you the information you are looking for. This information can also be found by using the “capitalistic” relationship and using your graph to visualize the links between your actor and other entities.

To identify suppliers, partners or competitors, you can use the “provider”, “partner”, or “competitor” relationships by staying filtered on your actor (and its potential subsidiaries or brands). You will see the thickest links appearing as the most mentioned and therefore often the most important or historical relationships.

You can identify the different sites of the company by using the search bar with the keywords: “plant”, “factory”, “facility”, “site”, etc. The Documents view will allow you to read the extracts related to these keywords. During this process and each time you use the search bar, remember to stay focused on the actor you are interested in. Even if the search is already focused on the actor, you should still filter on it so that you only get documents' extracts directly related to the actor.

To identify current and future projects, use the "publication date" and or "date mentioned" filters to focus on the period of your choice. Then go to the document view and enter the following terms in the search bar: “projects”, “contracts”, “deals”, etc.

This information will allow you to create an ID card. You can use visuals from the Geotrend platform to enhance it.
